As an average Joe consumer, I play a critical role in shaping supply chains. If I buy a product, more is made of it to supply to a market. So my choices make a difference in what gets produced or doesn’t.
I can decide to reduce my meat intake every week, eventually my family meat consumption reduction adds up over a year and a lifetime. That really does change the supply chain as my demand is lost and supply will reduce (in a small way).
I believe that my buying habits can really make a difference to the negative impacts that our supply chains can have on our world. I can make informed choices, instead of assuming that my role is small.
I have the luxury of choice in what I buy, I can decide not to buy the products that are not transparent in their supply chains. I can chose products that are.
Everyone has a role to play to shape the future of our planet, through the supply chains we encourage and discourage.
